WebMar 5, 2007 · 13. The recoil system on the Defender is really nothing like that on the 1911. The former, like all 3" 1911 variants, utilizes the dual telescoping recoil system patented many years ago by Seecamp. It's the only way to get enough spring into the tiny space allowed by a 3" barrel.
