The new seal no longer has the tabs on each end - it is just two crescent shaped slivers of reinforced rubber. Make sure you orient the seal correctly during installation and use a small piece of plastic as a chafe guard when inserting the seal into the upper bearing (engine block side).

Unless you are convinced the rear main seal is leaking, I would leave it alone, many DIY replacements have a tendency to leak and end up having to be redone. If you see a oil spot on the garage floor, first check your pan bolts, valve cover bolts and oil filter. There is a very good chance it's one of those, and ...
